Blackjack is a universal card game that millions of people know how to play and is mostly played in land based casinos and more recently online casinos. If you have never played blackjack before and you would like to learn the rules of the game then you’ve come to the right place. We’re going to go through all of the rules to the game of blackjack so that you’ll be able to start playing very shortly.
The first thing you need know about blackjack is that the goal of the game is to beat the dealer’s hand without busting. In order to beat the dealer you need to be the closest to 21 without going over. If you go over 21 this is known as busting and you will automatically lose your bet. Blackjack can be played with one deck or multiple decks, but keep in mind that you have a better chance of winning when you’re playing with only one deck.
To start a hand of blackjack you need to place how much you want to wager in front of you where there will be a designated spot for chips. Once you have done this the dealer will deal you two cards face up and will deal themselves one card face down and one card face up. Once the dealer has dealt the cards you will need to decide what you want to do. The plays you can make when you’re playing blackjack is as followed.
• Hit – When you “hit” you’re taking one more card to be added to your hand
• Stand – When you “stand” you’re saying that you don’t want to take anymore cards
• Split – When you “split” pairs you’re making two separate hands and you’ll need to place another bet on the table
• Double Down – When you “double down” you’re asking for one more card, but you also need to double your bet
Once you have finished playing your hand and you have either busted your hand or said stand the dealer will begin their hand. They have a set of rules that they need to follow and depending on the casino the rules may vary a little bit. Typically the dealer will always need to stand on a hard 17 or higher although this can vary. This means that the dealer would keep hitting until they have 17-21 or have busted.
If the dealer doesn’t bust then you need to be closer to 21 then they are in order to win, but if the dealer busts then you will win no matter what you have as long as you didn’t bust. This is why it’s smart to stand when you think the dealer is going to bust because you don’t want to risk busting before the dealer.
